Joanna Paola Corona

I was given the name Joanna Paola Corona. I really don't use my middle name because I prefer to go by the name Joanna. When I ask my parents who named me, they both say it was them. My mom says that she named me but when I ask my dad he says that it’s not true because my mom was so tired that she didn't have any energy to even name me. I always laugh because I think it’s funny both of them say it was them but I don't actually know which one of them actually chose my name.

The one thing I know for sure was that my mom gave me my middle name which is Paola. I like the name Paola but I love the name Joanna so I go by my first name. My first name is derived from the bible which is a girl’s form of John. Although that's not why I was named Joanna. My dad says that my name was given to me because my dad went to the bank one day and the teller's name was Joanna so he liked that name and decided to name me after her.

My last name is always a conversation starter I know that for a fact. In high school when my teacher’s took role they would always ask me “Oh. Corona, like the beer right?” I would always think that it was kind of strange that they would always refer to my name with the beer. I liked my last name until I felt that they would wear it out. I always had a frequently asked question which was “Does your family own the Corona beer company?” I would always tell them no until one day I actually started playing along. I would tell them “Yes, I’m like 7th in line.” People would actually believe me. I thought it was pretty funny.

My last name comes from my dad’s side of the family of course. I think I will keep my last name up until I get married and even then I’m still keeping my last name. The one thing that I think is sad is that my last name ended because my dad doesn’t have any boys which means that the family last name will not be carried on . My aunts are both married so the last name ended there as well and my uncle only has girls so they won’t carry the last name Corona either.

The thing that I want to do is that when I get married I wish that my kids will have my last name before the dad’s even though he might not want it that way. If I have any boys the boys will have my last name that way they get to carry the last name. I know it might be a little too much to ask for but that’s the way I want things to go. I think it is a great last name and I wish it can still go on for generations to come.
